My paintings were copied! Get the whole scoop in Pikaland's "Good To Know" zine!

Hi. I wrote an article in Pikaland's "Good To Know" zine about my paintings being copied. You can read all about it! It was terrible. I'm still upset about the whole thing. My article is on page 32. There are many many awesome articles in there about Plagiarism. It is definitely worth checking out. Thanks, Rina

  2. Hello,
I just read your story and want to say I really sympathize and still think you should take further measures since the person has obviously copied several pieces of your work?

I recently had to deal with a copycat myself but her "designs" and photos weren't exact copies. Hopefully she is now so aware that I - and other people - notice what she's doing that she won't try again. She has a shop up on E t s y and seems to have created a few aliases who buy from her and leave feedback right after they've bought something... sigh... This person and I have a mutual friend and she has also tried to badmouth me to her.

As soon as I saw what she was doing, and also her blog where she had ripped off texts, I took screenshots of everything and now have sealed envelopes which two independent witnesses have signed, so I can prove what her sites looked like and I also burned all my work on dvds. Just in case. I think I will do this more frequently now, just save everything and have people I'm not friends with seal and sign the envelopes.

    Best of luck to you!

  3. Dear Maria-Thérèse,
Thank you. I'm sorry you've had to deal with this sort of thing. It's terrible! I don't know why people can't just be nice and think for themselves. It makes me sad.

I think about the different options I have in terms of "further measures" quite a lot. (As a genuinely creative person, I've come up with some interesting ideas.) At the moment, I'm quite happy with my decision to publish this story so that the world can know about it.

The works my copycat copied from me are actually registered with the U.S. Copyright office, so there's really no two ways about whether or not those are my paintings.

I'm trying to just put this behind me as much as I can. I don't like to dwell on upsetting things. Right now I'm really happy it's going to be spring soon and the weather is warming up!

    Best wishes,
    Rina
